Desktop Standard’s “PolicyMaker” is now Microsoft’s “Group Policy Preference”

You know Microsoft aquired DesktopStandard last year, the developers of “PolicyMaker”. We all waited to see where and when the product is going to be integrated into Microsoft’s product suite.
Finally, Microsoft announced “Group Policy Preference”, the new name of PolicyMaker, to be available with Windows Server 2008.

How to change the file association for certain extensions?

Some guy in the newsgroups had the wish to change a file association for a bunch of computers. He wanted to have his .jpg applications to be opened with a specific application.
The file association is stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ - for each file extension there’s a subnode. For example “.ext” for files with ext extension.
